John Jacob Mumma was baptized in Trinity Lutheran Church, New Holland, PA on 11 Dec 1735. His exact birth date is unknown, but because of the Lutheran's practice to baptize their children soon after birth, his birth was likely about November, 1735.
The family first appears in the Evangelical Reformed Church records of Frederick, Frederick County, MD when Jacob and Anna Margaretha Mumma's daughter, Anna Catharina is baptized on 2 Feb 1776. It is likely the family relocated to Maryland about the time of the beginning of the Revolutionary War. (a birth/baptism of their daughter, Anna Margaretha in 1771 in Hanover, York Co. shows that the family had migrated from Lancaster Co., by this time - DMM)

John Jacob likely died in 1782. The following record appears in the Orphans Court Proceedings of Frederick Co., (1777-1786)
------August 1782-------
"Margaret Mumma, admin. of Adam Mumma, offered David Throup and Jacob Stimmel as securities"
--------------------------
What seems unusual is none of the other children are mentioned or entered into the court records, including Adam's younger brother, David.
