Deceased Name: MUMMA - George Edwin 84, Major U.S.A. Ret. of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Highlands, NC died June 25, 1995 at Highlands-Cashiers Hospital. "Mike" was the son of the late. Col. and Mrs. Morton Claire Mumma, U.S.A. A memorial service was held at 11 AM, Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Highlands. "Mike" Mumma graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1934 and did his graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh. He served his country as an officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. After retiring from the service, he was an executive with Sears Roebuck & Company in Chicago. In 1946 he bought Sunray Stove Company in Delaware, OH, which is now a subsidiary of Raytheon Corp. The Mumma's have been residents of Ft. Lauderdale for 30 years. Mike was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Lauderdale Yacht Club, Coral Ridge Country Club and Wildcat Cliffs Country Club. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Dorothy R. Mumma; children, Lyn Mumma-Sherman, Gretchen Chapin, Sally Baird Pilcher and Colin Pilcher; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his brother, Admiral Albert G. Mumma of Gladwyn PA; and sister, Mrs. Brooks Harral of Moorestown, NJ. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Highlands-Cashiers Hospital, Highlands, NC.
