POLO - Dr. Claude S. Mumma, 83. of Polo, a retired Army doctor, died Friday . as he was being taken to KSB Hospltal in Dixon.
Dr. Mumma entered the Army Medical Corps at the start of World War I and served until he retired in 1957 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He later taught at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical School. He retired two years ago and moved to Polo.
He was born March 17, 1894. in Forreston, a son of Samuel and Nellie (Cheeseman) Mumma. He graduated from Rush Medical School, Valparaiso, Ind., and took post-graduate work at the University of Illinois and In Vienna, Austria.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Swift of Forreston.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Forreston, the Rev. Paul Buettner, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church. F orreston, officiating. Burial will be in . White Oak Cemetery, Forreston. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
A memorial has been established for Faith Lutheran Church
