CATHERINE MOOMAW
Catherine was born in 1835 in Giles County, Virginia, to Jacob and Anna Fisher Moomaw. She is undoubtedly one of the female children listed in the 1840 US Census of Giles Co.
When her father moved the family to Grant Co., IN, in 1849 or 1850, Catherine would have gone with them. She is enumerated by name as a 15-year-old in the 1850 US Census of Grant County. Her 19-year-old future husband is shown in the same census, living on his own.
On 20 May 20 1852, Catherine married Wesley L. Patton in Indiana--according to the Moomaw Family History Book. When, a few years later, her father moved his family to Iowa, Catherine and Wesley remained behind in Indiana. Wesley Patton and his young family are enumerated in the 1860 Federal Census of Union Twp., Delaware Co., IN: Wesley [28, OH]; Catherine [24, VA]; Cynthia A. [3, IN].
The family appear in the 1880 US Census, still in Union Township: Wesley L. [49, OH, blacksmith]; Catharine [44, VA]; Scynthia A. [23, IN]; Alonzo [20, IN]; Golsberry [13, IN]; and Frank [9, IN]. What became of the family after that is not known.
Notes for WESLEY L. PATTON:
The 1850 US Census of Center Twp., Grant Co., IN, lists 19 year old Wesley L. Patten, a native of Ohio, living on his own. He appears again in the 1880 US Census of Union, Delaware Co., IN, as a 49-year-old married blacksmith.
Children of CATHERINE MOOMAW and WESLEY PATTON are:
i. CYNTHIA A.8 PATTON, b. Abt. 1857, Indiana2.
ii. ALONZO PATTON, b. Abt. 1860, Indiana3.
iii. GOLSBERRY PATTON, b. Abt. 1867, Indiana3.
iv. FRANK PATTON, b. Abt. 1871, Indiana3.
