Various given names were used and recorded during Harvey's lifetime. These names included "Henry" on his marriage certificate, "Harry" on his funeral records, "Harvey" on the SSDI and his middle name "Nelson" in obituaries.

After the death of Anna in 1914, having been married for 11 years, Harvey puts three of his boys in Mooseheart Child Home, a home near Chicago, IL, in 1915.
According to Mooseheart Records released to Pamela Mumma:

Marvin Nelson Mumma was born August 10, 1905 at Saltillo, PA he was at Mooseheart from 1915 - 1920
Upon dismissal, he went to live with his father.
Harold Dewey Mumma was born August 3, 1907 at Hustontown, PA. The same dicharge date in 1920 is recorded for Harold.
The boys left Mooseheart because the enrollment of the Mooseheart children increased to the point that children with a father living had to leave Mooseheart and live with the father." Source: Mooseheart records, February 2002
One must assume he marries Myrtle Bingham in the next few years because by 1918 he has a baby girl, Estalene Myrtle. A little over a year after his first daughter is born, Harvey is the father to a second daughter. The 1920 census reveals that Melvin has indeed been released from Mooseheart to his father's care.

Harvey & his family move to Texas together. In his brother Daniel's obituary of 1937 it is stated that Harvey is in Texas. It was some time after 1937 that he left his second wife, Myrtle, and moved north to Harvard, Idaho. By the time his brother John dies in1942, Harvey is going by the name of Nelson and is living in Harvard, Idaho. He apparently went to Washington after his brother John died. It is in Washington that Harvey Nelson Mumma dies and is buried next to his brother. Source: Brothers' obituaries, SSDI.
Although rather awkward in its presentation the following reveals a great deal about his boys: It is a death announcement for one of his sons that Virginia sent me. We can assume Edward J. Logan is Harold Dewey since the birth year matches that which was stated from Mooseheart.

According to Virginia it is also understood that a woman by the name of Dorothy Mumma adopted the last name of Mumma after Harvey Mumma. A letter in her possession "... indictes that Grandfather Harvey's letter written from Spokane, Wa. on 2-14-1941, in response to Dorothy, a child whom his ex-wife later adopted, said she was going to change her surname to Mumma, Harvey mentions he is glad to hear she is adopting the name Mumma for he is proud to be a Mumma."
