George's name was spelled "Mumaw" on his birth certificate, but the military spelled his name as "Moomaw" when he entered the Service, so he retained that spelling. This information was supplied by his wife, Veronica.
Third of nine children born to Benjamin Franklin Harrison Mumaw and Virginia Whitmer Mumaw. Born "Mumaw", but due to birth certificate discrepancy, changed name to Moomaw upon entering military service.
Brother of Orville Mumaw, Arthur Samuel Mumaw, Fleta Mumaw, Ella Bowers, Ruby Ross, Millie Duger, Lelia Plaugher and Stanley Owen Mumaw.
First marriage to Veronica Peel Moomaw; parents of Kenneth, Ronald, Kevin, Dennis and Juanita (Chickie). Chickie was actually the daughter of George's sister Fleta. George and Veronica raised her as one of their own when her mother died in childbirth.
George's name was mentioned in the April 24, 1961 issue of the Stars & Stripes newsletter for his contributions to cub and boy scouting.
