John P. Mumaw, who observed his 77th birthday anniversary last May 3, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Patterson, of 831 West Diamond avenue, last midnight, following an illness of two weeks, after being stricken with a heart attack.
Born in Conyngham, Mr. Mumaw spend practically his entire life in Hazleton and was well known throughout the community. For the past 62 years he had been employed by A. Pardee & Company and the Lehigh Navigation Coal Company, entering the former's services at 15 years of age. He had been engaged as compensation clerk for the company when taken ill.
Mr. Mumaw was a member of the local Moose, Red Men, and Independant Order of Americans.
He is survived by his widow, who before marriage was Henrietta Nussbaum, of this city; eight children: Guy, druggist of West Hazleton; Arthur, of Newark, N.J.; Harry, employed as an electrician for the I. N. C. Co.; F. Barton, of Eustis, Fla.; Mrs. Harrison Vannaucker, of Kane, PA.; Edith Mumaw, local school nurse; Mrs. George Patterson, city, and Mrs. Walter Penman, of Lebanon.
Ten grandchildren also survive.
The funeral will take place privately Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Services will be held at the house by Rev. Robert Bonner Jack, D. D., Pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Interment will be in the Vine street cemetery.
